Creative Ways to Transform Challenges:
Opening to Divine Guidance

Shifting Into Miracle Thinking  Margaret Hiller and David Hiller

The shift to miracle thinking, plain and simple, is moving from the mindset of fear and drama to the consciousness of the Heart-viewing the world from our Center where we trust the process, a place where we enjoy life rather than endure it. From this place of miracle thinking, we ask, "What is Divine up to in this experience?" How is God working in this moment-even when the moment looks frightening, feels painful or brings up old fears. We have a choice in those moments-the choice to stay in the fear and drama or to move to an expanded perception. When we choose to expand the way we view the world, we can shift the way we go through the experience. We can even shift outcomes and create miracles.

As we all know, "Shift Happens!" What do we see when we read the newspaper drama, when we watch the evening news, or in our own lives? Do we see Shift? Do we see God at work? Do we see order coming out of the chaos? Or, do we see something else besides shift?

Basic quantum physics says there is order behind the chaos. "Out of chaos comes expansion and the new form, " says Stephen Hawking. The quantum physicists tell us that what we are looking for is what we find. The experimenter will find what he or she is expecting to see. In New Thought language, thoughts held in mind create after their kind.

We are invited by the Holy Beloved Self within to shift from the common thinking of fear and drama to a more expanded consciousness. Sir William Irwin Thompson, philosopher, proposed this: "We are like flies crawling across the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. We cannot see what angels and divinity lie underneath the threshold of our perceptions. We often do not live in the divine but we live in habituated perceptions. We live in an illusion that miracles are not possible."

Miracles do happen!

Our illusion often times is that "things will get worse, not better". That has been a medical verdict for many individuals, and yet, people are defying medical verdicts and recovering from physical, as well as emotional and mental illness-even when the "experts" say it is impossible. When we expand our view of the world, when we open to knowing that there is an entire ceiling of the "Sistine Chapel," then we open and make ourselves available to even more possibilities and outcomes, including miracles.

In our work we include the "laying-on-of-hands", an ancient form of imparting healing support and love to one another. We pray with and hold the vision with people for healing of body, mind and spirit for themselves and also for those they hold in their hearts-children, spouses, loved ones, friends and communities. We see people making shifts and creating miracles, the greatest of which is making the choice to move from fear to love.

In his book, Making Miracles, Paul Pearsall, Ph.D., tells his story about the cancer that ate away at his pelvis bone and hip bone. The tumor disappeared using traditional medicine, alternative healing, prayer and the love of his family. This was miraculous, but even more miraculous, the pelvic bone was restored and the hip bone was restored. The bone was regenerated!

The shift to miracle thinking requires what Pearsall describes as an "uncommon consciousness" which allows us to open to more possibilities than the common consciousness sees. At the recent Harvard conference entitled "Spirituality and Healing in Medicine," we heard many medical doctors and researchers proclaiming the that the patient's spiritual perspective must be included in the medical process and that a wise physician is one who opens to miraculous possibilities.

How do we move from the mind of fear to the Mind of God or Mind of Love? Consider these practical steps:

A Process for Shifting into Miracle Thinking

Step 1. Invoke the Divine.
We do a process called "Making the Calls" which stills the mind and expands the heart. Sit quietly, take a deep breath and close your eyes. Begin by saying these words (You can substitute whatever words you use for a Higher Power):

  1. I call forth the in-filling of the Divine Light of God.
  2. I call forth a perfect circle of light and love to surround me.
  3. I call forth the holy healing breath of God to breathe within me.
  4. I call forth the power of the Holy Spirit to flow through me and bless me with God's Divine Love and understanding.
Step 2. After practicing "Making the Calls," begin the process of observing and understanding your experiences through High Holy Vision. This is an illuminated way of seeing and understanding life's experiences through the eyes of love rather than through the eyes of fear. Call forth the Holy Spirit energy to move into your heart (the house of God within you).

Step 3. Clearly state the topic for which you want to receive greater understanding. It may be about another person, or a particular situation in your life.

Step 4. You will receive a picture, thought, feeling or knowing. Observe only, without judgment, analysis or trying to figure it out.

Step 5. Continue to observe what you have received in non-judgment. The ego will want to figure it out, so continue to remind yourself to observe only. Continue to ask for understanding of the situation from divine perspective. You'll know you're receiving divine perspective when you feel compassion, love and a release of the burdens you have been carrying about this experience.

Step 6. Give thanks for what you have received and slowly bring yourself back to the present, staying in the divine energy.
