A
Birth Story: We Have A Choice
Karen Joy
The restless spirit perched cautiously on the edge of her seat outside
the big conference room. She had been waiting for her opportunity
a long time. Now, only two persons were before her and then it would
be her turn to enter the big room for a private conference before
her journey began. She had longed for her day ever since the wise
Angels had explained a plan to all children. She could not help
but wonder, "What will the Angels say to me about my new life? Will
they have some special task on earth for me to complete? Will I
return here to report on my mission?"
The sound of a door opening disturbed her thoughts and she tried
to catch another glimpse of the big room before the door closed
again. Only one more now and then it would be her chance to walk
through that same door.
The boy sitting next to her smiled as they waited together. She
nervously returned his smile and wished again that the time would
pass more quickly.
"I wonder who my parents will be?" said the little boy. "I hope
they will love me as much as I know I will love them. What kind
of a family do you want to belong to?" He asked the waiting girl.
She thought for a moment and then replied, "Oh, I don't care much,
I guess. I'm like you; I just want a family that will love me and
help me to reach my goals. They don't have to have money or an important
name. As long as we all love each other everything else will work
out. I do hope they are friends of the Angels, though, because so
many of my friends have gone to families that don't even recognize
their soul or call to the Angels unless they are in trouble. I sure
don't want that to happen to me as it's so hard to live on earth
all by yourself."
"I agree with you," said the boy. "Oh, there's my name now. Well,
perhaps I'll see you again sometime. Bye now." He walked away happily
as the door opened for him.
"Well, I guess that I am the last one today," she said to herself.
"I sure wish they would hurry." She squirmed a few times, and then
scooted down the bench until she was right outside the big door.
At that exact moment the big door opened and she gulped a deep breath
as she finally heard her name called.
Slowly, but with great anticipation, she went inside the conference
room. She stood shyly waiting for the next word from the two persons
who sat at the end of a long conference table. The one they call
"Father" seemed to sense her shyness, for he smiled and called the
bashful spirit closer to him. There was another with the Father.
He had already been to earth and knew much about life on earth.
He seemed to represent all the spirits that go to earth.
Father spoke kindly, but his voice had a note of authority in it.
"Come sit here by me while we talk about your future. I can tell
you about it now."
The happy spirit seated herself carefully so she wouldn't miss one
iota of these last precious moments before the journey into mortality.
Innumerable questions raced through her head but she decided to
wait and ask them after the Father had finished talking.
Behind them was a huge curtain that filled one side of the room.
Only on very special occasions did one get the chance to see what
was on the other side. The big journey was just such an occasion.
Father carefully parted the veil and drew her close to him.
"I have three scenes to show you about your new life on earth. The
first scene is an unhappy one, and perhaps you will wonder why this
must be for you. But watch quietly and I will explain it to you."
He spoke tenderly and showed the little spirit a hospital on earth
where she would enter mortality. There amid the joys of new life
a young girl lay softly crying in a hospital bed. "This is your
mother. She loves you very much but she does not feel she can keep
you to raise you properly. She has consented to give you to another
family that she might have a new start in life and be a better mother
for spirits yet to come to her. Her decision is wise, although very
hard and sad, for she can be a chosen spirit if she gives you to
another."
The spirit listened wonderingly. Apparently hers was not to be a
normal visit to earth. What would the rest of her mission be? Would
she make it? It all seemed to be so very strange and different from
what she had anticipated.
Then she was shown a scene of a young couple who looked very sad
and lonely. "This is your family on earth. They have been valiant
and have waited long for a child of their own. I have sent spirits
to them before and know of the tender love and preparation they
have made for their coming and yet how willingly they have returned
them to the Angels after a very brief sojourn on earth. But now
their time of sorrow is past, for you are to be what mortals call
"adopted". They are choice parents for you and if you heed their
teachings they will make it very easy for you to learn and experience
much. They will teach you great spiritual understandings. They have
talked to the Angels often and made many promises if they might
be given a child to raise and you have been chosen as an answer
to their prayers."
Father smiled as he heard a sigh of relief escape from the little
spirit child. He and the Angels loved all the children dearly and
wanted them to learn to live on earth, so that they might reach
the full potential of their existence there. She remembered fully
the lessons she had learned and felt prepared for the journey ahead.
She knew that her decisions would be the difference between a meager
existence or a life that is full. She knew that earth life was up
to her. She watched eagerly as the Father showed her the third scene.
In this scene there was a beautiful light. The light shone bright
over her head. It reached all the way up to the Angels. The soul
was in constant conversation and connection with the Angels. The
Father explained that the soul is eternal, it has no end and no
beginning. It exists forever and yet the body that she was going
to take had a choice. It could listen to the soul's instructions
or listen to others that would also try to influence. "You can be
what you want to be, but remember that the Angels will often stir
your soul."
Father slowly closed the curtain and she reached his hand to touch
the Father once more before time to leave. She thought she had no
more questions for the Father had answered them all. She felt very
blessed that she would have such wonderful life, and then . . .
She asked the Father one more question. She asked to be blessed
to bring joy and happiness to earth.
Father placed his hands upon the child's head and he blessed the
spirit and promised guidance in the days to come. . . She looked
one more time as the great curtain was closed.
Down on earth a tiny baby's cry pierced the silent tension of the
hospital delivery room as the doctor gave a resounding spank and
said, "May the Angels bless you my child for the child that you
have delivered." The doctor handed the little one to the awaiting
parents. Both mothers cried at the blessing of life. They cried
a knowing cry for each other and the precious gift of this little
child.
The Father, turned to face another waiting for the journey.
